SPOTLIGHT: New Foscarini 2012 Collection

We have a feeling 2012 is going to be a good year for Foscarini. With a formidable line of additions to their collection, Foscarini has ushered in the new year on an exceptional note. They’ve drawn their 2012 collection together from a familiar roster of acclaimed designers and studios, along with a few new partnerships, and have managed all the while to stay true to their commitment to the expression of new ideas, the progress of production and materials, and their unique, trailblazing futurism.

Only a few months ago we wrote about our impressions of Nemo-Cassina‘s new products when we went to visit them in Milan at Salone Internazionale Del Mobile and now they’ve sent us  their new 2011 product brochure to formally introduce the many new and beautiful additions to the  Nemo “Classici” and “Contemporanei” lines.

As the lighting division of Cassina, Nemo has followed closely in Cassina’s tradition of collaborating with some of the most influential and compelling architects and designers of the twentieth century. Their designers have been at the forefront of innovation in the use of new materials and have all produced designs that have a very particular aura of minimalist elegance.

Here in this Brochure they introduce the newest of their “Classici” series with works by Le Corbusier, Charlotte Perriand, Franco Albini and Mario Bellini.

Left: Nuvola Pendant, designed by Mario Bellini, 1974  |  Right: 601 Table Lamp, designed by Franco Albini and Franca Helg, 1968
Left: Lampe de Marseille Pendant, designed by Le Corbusier, 1954  |  Right: Applique A Volet Pivotant Wall Sconce designed by Charlotte Perriand, 1962

The new additions to the “Contemporanei” series is made up of no less impressive a line up, with works by Yasutoshi Mifune, Javier Mariscal, Roberto Paoli, Agatha Ruiz De La Prada, Ilaria Marelli and Jehs+Laub.

Maison Martin Margiela, the enigmatic and visionary fashion house, have expanded their aesthetic purview to the world of interiors and the lexicons of industrial and interior design are bound to become richer for it. Their newest venture has been their collaboration with the Parisian boutique hotel La Maison Champs-Élysées where in Maison Martin Margiela was commissioned to design its interiors.

“La Maison Champs Élysées aims to redefine what you may expect from a hotel and bring you a new lifestyle experience, designed with utmost simplicity and yet abundant in details. Maison Martin Margiela is creating a theatrical environment where reality and trompe-l’oeil blend into a surreal atmosphere. The result is an atypical ambience of different harmonies that coalesce into something new, innovating and simply cool.”

- La Maison Champs Élysées

Let’s hope the House of Margiela turns its wayward vision to world of lighting.
