Uma Chandelier designed by Giancarlo Tintori

As the lighting division of Cassina, we’ve come to expect nothing less than the best from Nemo. With the vision of industrial designer Giancarlo Tintori behind them, they have set out to produce and create one of the most innovative and most striking recreations of the classic chandelier. Made of transparent metacrylate tubes and an inner steel structure, Tintori has designed a chandelier that utilizes modern production and materials but still manages to evoke the craft, the detail and the awe of its older, more traditional form.

The Uma stands tall at the crossroads of modernity and old world opulence.

We all, no doubt, routinely visit the many great lifestyle and culture blogs out there that continue to expound the culture of home decor. They inspire us to experiment with as many old things as new. Of late, serious retailers and home owners alike have been looking to the ephemera of industry to illuminate their spaces.  It’s clear that after so many years what may have seemed to be a trend, is no trend at all, but rather a sustained interest in the unfinished and durable sensibility of the industrial. No where has this trend been more pervasive than lighting and since lighting has always been a huge consideration for any serious home decorator, we thought we’d share some of our favourite industrial pendants.

Maison Martin Margiela, the enigmatic and visionary fashion house, have expanded their aesthetic purview to the world of interiors and the lexicons of industrial and interior design are bound to become richer for it. Their newest venture has been their collaboration with the Parisian boutique hotel La Maison Champs-Élysées where in Maison Martin Margiela was commissioned to design its interiors.

“La Maison Champs Élysées aims to redefine what you may expect from a hotel and bring you a new lifestyle experience, designed with utmost simplicity and yet abundant in details. Maison Martin Margiela is creating a theatrical environment where reality and trompe-l’oeil blend into a surreal atmosphere. The result is an atypical ambience of different harmonies that coalesce into something new, innovating and simply cool.”

Let’s hope the House of Margiela turns its wayward vision to world of lighting.

Vibia Wind 4080 Pendant

Vibia Wind 4055 Floor Lamp

Vibia’s showing this year at Salone Internazionale Del Mobile was a true testament to the company’s leadership in the lighting industry. The brand has consistently allowed new lighting and production technologies to guide their aesthetic inspiration, seeing new opportunities for form with each new technology.

Designer Jordi Vilardell excels in his partnership with Vibia once more in composing two unique additions to an already strong outdoor line. His playful outdoor floor and pendant series, Wind, has garnered much attention on several design blogs and his partnership with Meritxell Vidal in creating the Halley series has us all a little awe-struck. Inspired by the arches of a comet, the many iterations of the Halley series’ soft glow and luminous arches use LED strip technology to provide elegant, energy efficient lighting for the outdoors.
