Spanish lighting company LZF hosted a magically lit outdoor picnic at their present headquarters – a converted winery on the outskirts of the village of Chiva in the province of Valencia, Spain. The guests were invited to enjoy the evening outdoors with LZF lamps illuminating the expansive garden. They invited the guests to view the factory, where LZF creates their signature handmade, wood veeneer fixtures. Romantic and fluid, the LZF aesthetic mimics the warmth and familiarity of nature.

One of the newest additions to the Marset product line up is a result of a pioneering collaboration with Xavier Mañosa, a master ceramicist from Barcelona, and the Mashallah (fashion and product design) Studio based out of Berlin. The Pleat Box is made of ceramic and the inspiration for its silhouette comes from the look of creases in fabric. Hande Akçayli & Murat Koçyigit of Mashallah Studio design and sculpt in a completely digital environment using advanced design software. Working together, the designers conceived of its form digitally and executed its production by the skilled hands of Mañosa, himself. The Pleat Box speaks to the experimental through its digital conception as well as to the endurance of the traditional through the artisanship required in its production.

We recently announced our new partnership with Manhattan based design trio Rich Brilliant Willing on our blog and since LightForm has, over the last year, made a strong commitment to supporting North American design and North American designers, our union was timely as well as fitting. Their range of furniture and lighting represents a unique perspective. Referencing the existing objects and ideas that fill our daily lives, they appropriate and recreate them to address the metamorphosis of materials and product when developed in unconventional ways.
Their work has generated an immense amount of attention from such revered design, fashion and lifestyle publications as Monocle, Wallpaper, I.D., Dwell, T Magazine and Surface Magazine, among many others. Upon viewing their collection, it’s not really hard to see why. Theo Richardson, Charles Brill and Alexander Williams are the three talented designers that make up Rich Brilliant Willing and they were kind enough to let us ask them a few questions about how it works to operate a laboratory-style workshop and be a cohesive three-person design studio.

In 2009, designer Mike Thompson embarked on a project to create a Blood Lamp. For those of you who haven’t seen it, it’s a fascinating project that manages to put a little perspective on our energy consumption.

Our Edmonton office is in the process of a spectacular renovation in which the walls between Dwell Modern and LightForm are being torn down to facilitate a natural symbiosis in both form and function. The showrooms will combine to become one mega showroom that will house the very best that there is to offer in the world of interiors, for both lighting and furniture. Both Dwell Modern and LightForm are celebrating the expansion of their product lines with a renovation aimed at opening up the airy, spacious interior to showcase our tried and trusted classics, with an emerging arm of new design from new studios in North America and Europe.
The team is working hard to recreate the space and the finished product will no doubt be as beautiful as it is inspiring. We’ll be posting more updates from our showrooms around the country so stay tuned!

The Flos Kelvin LED task lamp was first presented to the public in 2009 and was awarded the Red Dot Design Award in 2011, recognizing it for its innovative and elegant integration of energy efficient technology. Designed by the esteemed Antonio Citterio with Toan Nguyen, this lamp is a New Classic in the making. Clean, beautiful and efficient, it’s truly an inspiring piece to be around.
Its base and body are constructed of fused and extruded aluminum alloy, its outer head is made of die-cast aluminum and its ON/OFF switch is a touch-operated electronic optical mechanism located on its head. In short, this is a lamp that is built as strong as it is smart. Available in a glossy white, black or anthracite finish the Kelvin LED provides direct, warm white illumination with Thirty 1W LED diodes from an unconventional flat square diffuser. It’s surely ahead of the curve but already it feels like a staple.
