“A slit of light in a monolithic mass: Ara is the contrast between the material and the immaterial that is the basis of every lighting project.”
Ilaria Marelli’s description of the Ara as a “slit of light in a monolithic mass” is a great window into the inspiration employed by Marelli when she set out to create the sleek and commanding Ara. Its body is made of die-cast aluminium, with a rotatable diffuser in Pyrex or polycarbonate in an option of a champagne, anthracite, grey or white.
Loved in both its forms as a wall and a floor lamp, it is recognized immediately as a piece that lends itself to many different aesthetics, making it one of the most versatile and dynamic lights in production today.

Only a few months ago we wrote about our impressions of Nemo-Cassina‘s new products when we went to visit them in Milan at Salone Internazionale Del Mobile and now they’ve sent us their new 2011 product brochure to formally introduce the many new and beautiful additions to the Nemo “Classici” and “Contemporanei” lines.
As the lighting division of Cassina, Nemo has followed closely in Cassina’s tradition of collaborating with some of the most influential and compelling architects and designers of the twentieth century. Their designers have been at the forefront of innovation in the use of new materials and have all produced designs that have a very particular aura of minimalist elegance.
Here in this Brochure they introduce the newest of their “Classici” series with works by Le Corbusier, Charlotte Perriand, Franco Albini and Mario Bellini.
